NOHFC INVEST North Program – Innovation Stream Overview

The NOHFC INVEST North Program – Innovation Stream is a strategic funding initiative in Northern Ontario, Canada, aimed at supporting innovation, growth, and economic development. It provides financial resources and assistance to eligible businesses, enabling them to undertake innovative projects and activities that drive economic prosperity and enhance competitiveness.

Through the Innovation Stream, businesses can access funding for research and development, technology adoption, product commercialization, and business expansion. The program focuses on supporting projects that demonstrate strong potential for innovation, market growth, and long-term sustainability. By providing financial support and guidance, the program facilitates the development and commercialization of new products, processes, and technologies, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Northern Ontario.

How Much Funding?

Conditional contribution of up to 50% of total eligible costs to a maximum of $2 Million.

For Applied Research and Development only projects: up to 50% of total eligible costs to a maximum of $500,000.

Combined Federal and Provincial government funding may not exceed 75% of eligible project costs.

WHO QUALIFIES?

Private-sector businesses alone, or in partnership with a public sector academic or research institution.

Eligible Activities & Expenditures

Applied research & development projects, and demonstration & commercialization of new and innovative technologies in Northern Ontario

Direct internal technical labour costs
Prototyping and prototype demonstration costs (engineering and design services and component purchase, fabrication and installation costs)
Product testing
Intellectual property protection costs
Research and development services provided by public sector partners
Building or renovation costs specifically related to the commercialization of the new technology
Material costs
Product certification costs
Marketing costs (< 20% of total costs)
