CanExport: Penetrating International Markets Made Easier for Canadian Businesses
CanExport is a funding program designed to help Canadian business owners break into new international markets.
Small and medium-sized companies that qualify may access up to $75,000 in funding to assist with international market development activities. This can be used to cover up to 75% of export marketing expenses incurred to help your brand become more competitive in international markets.
The CanExport program introduced new measures to support Canadian businesses in navigating the current challenges safely despite the ongoing pandemic.
What activities are being funded during the COVID?
CanExport supports the following non-travel activities:
Launching SEO campaigns
Participating in virtual trade shows, networking functions, meetings, or conferences
Gathering custom research, reports and studies, and other forms of market intelligence
Applying for international intellectual property protection
Applying for international certifications
Seeking specialized business and legal counsel
Creating, translating, or adapting international marketing materials
When the travel restrictions get lifted, the program will also support the following:
Trips to foreign markets
Attending trade shows, networking functions, meetings, or conferences in person
Joining a trade mission
Who can apply?
For Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises to be eligible, they must
Be a for-profit organization
Be a legally incorporated entity or a limited liability partnership (LLP)
Have a Canada Revenue Agency business number. Companies registered on First Nations lands are exempted
Have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees
Generated $100,000 to $100 million worth of revenue in Canada during its past fiscal year (or 12 months for quarterly filers)
What is new?
If you submit an application between April 1 and December 14, the start date of the funding agreement (the date that your expenses are eligible) will be the date that you submitted your project.
Export brokers in the agriculture and agri-food sector may be eligible for the program, provided they meet Canadian content requirements.
The maximum funding for online advertising activities (Category C), including Search Engine Optimization (SEO), has been increased to $50,000 per project. The program is now allowing online advertising on social media platforms, online marketplaces, and search engines.
